What Pelahatchie is like
Settlers built a community here in the 1850s, and the Alabama and Vicksburg Railroad came through in 1858. The town was laid out in 1860 and incorporated in 1904. It takes its name from Pelahatchie Creek, and the town's history page says the Choctaw name most likely means crooked creek.
It's still a small town, with about 1,300 people as of mid-2025. I-20 Exit 68 at Highway 43 puts you on the interstate toward Brandon and Jackson.
Things to do
The Pelahatchie Muscadine Jubilee is the big event of the year. The 2026 Jubilee was September 19 at Muscadine Park, with live music. WLBT reported back in 2015 that it had already been running for more than three decades, complete with a grape stomp.
Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort is on Campground Road in Pelahatchie. It has a private lake, a waterpark, a splash park, cabins and RV sites.
